David Campos 甘大爲 Endorsed by the California Latino Legislative Caucus
San Francisco — David Campos has received a sole endorsement from the California Latino Legislative Caucus.
Chair of the caucus, State Senator María Elena Durazo (SD-24) has also announced her endorsement of Campos for the 17th Assembly District. “David knows what it is like to grow up with two parents working multiple jobs just to put food on the table. In the Assembly I know David will be a champion to create and preserve good middle-class jobs that provide opportunity and security for working families. That is why he is endorsed by unions that represent housekeepers and cooks like UNITE HERE Local 2 and IFPTE Local 21.” says the California State Senator.
If elected, Campos would be the first formerly undocumented, gay, Latino man to hold this seat. If elected, he would also represent San Francisco’s Mission District, which he represented as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, home to the city’s largest population of Latino individuals and families.
“David has the experience and perspective we need in the Assembly. His historic election as Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party shows that David knows how to build a successful coalition that can help solve the critical statewide and local issues facing the Latino community and all Californians” says Vice Chair of the caucus Robert Rivas (AD-30).
David Campos came to the United States undocumented with his family at the age of 14. He carried his younger sister on his back as they passed the border, before settling in South Central Los Angeles. He was a dreamer before the concept even existed. Campos has worked as a public servant for over two decades, crafting legislation that has uplifted the Latino community.
“The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t create inequality, but it did highlight the inequities that exist in our society. We saw a stark difference between people who could ‘work from home’, and people who either lost their jobs or were forced to put themselves in harm’s way as frontline workers. The Latino community is overwhelmingly in the second group, and our community saw the highest rates of infection and mortality in California. I’m running to finally give a voice to the Latino community in San Francisco”, says David Campos.
